  2. Hey, I got some of that stimulus money! Actually I got laid off and then the stimulus money extended my unemployment for some additional weeks. I really would rather have a job though. All the engineers and surveyors I know are hanging onto their jobs with both arms and both legs. Many of them have already taken pay cuts and are not working 40 hours a week, but they have a job!

To keep my living expenses down, we moved out of California. At one of the surveyors meetings here, we had a field party chief come to a meeting and beg for work because he had a family and his unemployment had run out. That sounds more like a depression than a recession. Sorry folks, but the upturn in the economy has only happened in the government. Us surveyors and engineers are in for a hard winter. Layoffs and closures will continue to plague our industries because there just is not enough work for all of us. Well, I for one have gotten out of the business. I still go to the meetings and wish I was working as a surveyor, but have given up on that. I am on to other things. Aren’t you glad I did not go into business out of my house in competition with you?

A friend emailed me saying that he had gotten laid off again. Rats. They can make it with her working at the school and him taking care of the kids, but it is tight. What I mean by tight is that they do not buy potato chips, or any snack foods at all, period. If they do not need it to stay alive, they don’t buy it. Now that is a wake up call for most of us. We have never had to do that. But here we are. Best Wishes, Luke
